"Mr. Samson...it’s that Miss Reynolds on one."
Joshua Samson, Esquire had to smile at the crisp edge to his executive assistant's words over the intercom on his desk. His longtime assistant got that way when she wasn't entirely thrilled with the caller on the other end- and the last few weeks had done nothing to endear Faline Reynolds aka Savannah to the woman!
“Thank you, Linda.”
He pressed a button on the landline phone before picking up the receiver to put to his ear.
“Hey, FayFay.”
Faline's tone was equally crisp- if for different reasons.
"Joshua? Care to explain why you cut away to a commercial when I was out in the ring telling that bitch off?"
“Huh?”
"Check YouTube."
“I’m not really not the YouTube kinda guy. I mean, I still watch the ‘Charlie Bit Me’ video every now and then. Why don’t you just tell me what’s go on, FayFay.”
There was a bit of a chuckle.
"You don't watch your own show, Joshua?"
Faline sighed.
"I came out and Pounced that bitch Tiffany Prada, then beat the shit out of her. The YouTube video cuts to a commercial right at the Pounce and skips the good part."
"I wasn’t aware of any of that. I was there at the show so I didn’t have to watch it on YouTube. I’ll have to get with Jason and see if there was an issue.”
"Jade has been having me watch the show replay every week for years now. I get to see my mistakes- and enjoy the good parts- from multiple angles."
“That’s sound managerial/trainer advice. So this thing between you and Tiffany has gotten very personal.”
"I told her I was done talking. Now she knows what happens when I stop. Just remember, when she comes to you. Give her whatever she wants."
“That’s not how it actually works, FayFay. Of course I’m going to have to do what’s best for IPW as well as the safety of it’s Icons. This isn’t EHWF anymore. All those crazy hardcore matches you put your body through will be at a bare minimum.”
"Sure, Joshua. But I'll take bare minimum if it means getting to kick her ass out of the arena. If that's what she wants, it's what I want."
“Duly noted.”
There was a pause at the other end and Joshua was about to hang up when Faline asked.
"Joshua? Were you really married when I was… you know?"
“FayFay, I thought we agreed...we said we wouldn’t…”
"Is that a yes?"
“What does that matter now? Honestly, what does a yes or no matter at this juncture in our lives?”
"It matters because… Because all this time I've been thinking Astrid was just being some crazy bitch and now… You know how fuckin hard it's going to be admitting she was right?"
There is a long pause with only the breathing of the two heard down the line.
“It doesn’t matter, Faline. What was done is done. Never to be spoken about, remember?”
He hears a snort over the line.
"You and I agreed. Not her."
“How about next time you’re in the city we’ll meet up at Water Grill and talk about it? No cameras or anything. That work for you?”
"I'm not the one you need to convince to come to that meeting, Joshua."
“What do you mean? Who else should be coming?”
"You know 'who else' Joshua. She'd make up her own meeting for us otherwise. Besides, I'm getting tired of this bullshit."
“There is no way in hell she needs to be there! For what anyway? That will just further complicate things. Just let it go, Faline. Just let it go...”
"I'd be more than happy to let it go, Joshua. Really I would. But you and I both know what keeps me from doing just that. Tired of getting my nose rubbed in it."
“I...I…”
It’s very rare for a man that makes his money with his words to be without any but it seems this time he is left speechless. He could feel a small smile over the line from Faline.
"It's okay, Joshua. We'll have the meeting any way you decide. Just remember, though. Getting past this means you no longer have to hear about it either."
With that, she hung up leaving him looking at the receiver and listening to the dial tone in deep thought.
