Coming hot off the heels of last week’s blockbuster news of Iconic Professional Wrestling signing a trial run deal with Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim (see here), IPW signs a rumored five year deal with local Los Angeles television broadcaster Venture Broadcasting Group to broadcast first run wrestling programming on it’s affiliated television network, KVME-TV through it’s Heroes and Icons affiliate network. A press statement was released this morning by Venture Technologies Group.
"We are very excited about this acquisition," commented Anthony Davis, a representative of Venture Technologies Group. "Television and professional wrestling have a long history of successful partnerships and driving viewership. Unfortunately, the broadcast networks have not protected that relationship, allowing professional wrestling to migrate to cable network distribution. We believe that the powerful promotional platform that our TV stations provide, coupled with our 22% coverage of the U.S. TV households, will allow IPW to achieve name brand recognition and grow its share of the wrestling market. When you consider the makeup of our station mix and the number of Heroes & Icons affiliates we operate, this is a perfect fit for our viewer demographics."
Mr. Davis continued, "We believe that IWP will provide us with multiple revenue opportunities. In addition to the advertising component, there are product sponsorships, Internet pay-per-view, live wrestling tour events, and sales of DVDs and other merchandise. Longer-term, we can envision syndicating IPW wrestling to broadcasters in markets where KVME-TV does not have a presence and even internationally. We believe there are opportunities to broadcast IWP wrestling on our secondary tier channels or in a mobile environment.”
This September, Iconic Professional Wrestling will debut on Heroes & Icons' network of broadcast television stations, and with it, will become the only wrestling promotion in the United States with a major, multi-market presence on broadcast TV. "But if you don't live in a market with a Heroes & Icons station, fear not," says Mr. Davis. "Through our website, we will be able to make the TV show available to anyone in the world with internet access."
KVME-TV, virtual and UHF digital channel 20, is a Heroes & Icons-affiliated television station licensed to Bishop, California, United States. The station is owned by Venture Technologies Group. KVME's transmitter is located in the White Mountains, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Bishop.
Heroes & Icons (H&I) is an American digital broadcast television network owned by Weigel Broadcasting. Primarily carried on the digital subchannels of its affiliated television station in most markets, it primarily airs classic television series from the 1950s through the 2000s, with a focus on westerns, crime dramas, sci-fi, and action-oriented programming geared toward male audiences.
