It was getting late when the scene opens up inside of UCLA Medical Center’s Santa Monica campus. In a private room, Astrid Sedin can be seen laying in a hospital bed, hooked up to all sorts of machines and even an IV drip as there was no emotion on her face. She seemed lost, looking out the window and didn’t even notice when a nurse walked in.
NURSE: Mrs. Samson… normally we don’t do this because it’s past visiting hours, but he said he was family.
Astrid didn’t move, didn’t say a word as the nurse stepped aside, allowing IPW General Manager Tapioca Joe to walk into the room. He nods his acknowledgement to the nurse as he steps closer to the bed.
TAP: How you holding up, Astrid?
Astrid Sedin: What do you think? And what do you care?
An audible sigh can be heard as she kept her gaze looking out the window.
Astrid Sedin: I’m being kept overnight for observation because a bunch of levels aren’t where they’re supposed to be. I don’t know… it’s all a blur. But they said I’m staying until they’re up.
He looks her up and down, his gaze resting on the machines she is connected to for a few seconds.
TAP: I'm here because I do care, kid. I’ve been in this sport too long not to care. Besides it’s my job to care.
Astrid Sedin: You didn’t seem to care when you gave me a fine that took every dime I had. I don’t even have money for food… not like I’m able to eat anyway. And now Joshua wants nothing to do with me… all because I was trying to make a joke. What’s left anymore?
TAP: I was just doing my job, Astrid. And I know it wasn’t all your money plus you have the capacity to make more.
He leans forward with both hands to hold onto the railing of the hospital bed.
TAP: Astrid, things might be dire now but you have so, so much left in life.
Astrid Sedin: Like what? My husband wants nothing to do with me, refuses to talk to me. I don’t belong here if it’s not with him. I know it sounds stupid but I came out here for him, I love it so much that it damn near killed me when he refused to help me. I want to go home… to my husband. But he’s too busy trying to fuck other women. I’ve seen Twitter. Why won’t he talk to me so we can work this out?
Her eyes start to glass over as tears began to form in her eyes, one rolling down her cheek.
Astrid Sedin: I can’t stay in IPW if he wants nothing to do with me, shoving me to the side like I’m just another piece of trash. And the fact that he took out the one person who wants to help me… broke me more.
The grizzled veteran reaches out to touch her but quickly changes his mind and pulls his hand back.[/color]
TAP: I’m no good with dealing the affairs of the heart, Astrid. That is an issue best left to someone else more experienced. As far as that “one person” she was clearly out of bounds with her behavior hence her suspension.
Astrid Sedin: But that wasn’t enough for him… he had to go and physically injure her? And you said that I was a danger to myself and others. Isn’t there a way you can talk to him and find out what’s going on in his head?
She turned her head to look at him.
Astrid Sedin: It’s the least you could do.
TAP: I’m sorry but I can’t get involved, Astrid. He is my boss. Besides that would just further blur the lines with me being your boss.
Tap takes a hard swallow.
TAP: There is also another reason I’m here since you did happen to mention it.
Astrid Sedin: Why won’t anyone help me?
The hand her IV is in to wipe away another tear.
Astrid Sedin: Why are you here?
TAP: After tonight’s “display” after the match it has been decided that it is best that we move you to the inactive roster, Astrid.
Astrid Sedin: You can’t do that to me! I paid your fine! I didn’t do anything bad… I actually fuckin’ behaved. Hell… I won the match and this is how you repay me! I have a shot at Minx… I have one show left and you’re basically taking away all hope I have left.
Astrid uses both hands to cover her face as she just lets it all out.
Astrid Sedin: Why are you doing this to me?
TAP: This isn’t a punishment, Astrid. Pulling you from active duty is for you own protection. You’re not well. Besides there is no point to have a last match before you leave. I’ll make sure you get title match pay.
Astrid Sedin: I am fine! I was just a little bit dehydrated or something. I want my last match. I’ve earned it! I paid your damn fine so I could have it and now you want to screw me over? I don’t need protection I have Daveena! And she will be out there ringside if anyone tries to do anything. Please Joe… don’t do this to me.
Her face was all red as she lowered her eyes.
Astrid Sedin: Please… I’m begging. Taking this away is going to do more harm than good.
TAP: I’m...I’m sorry. The decision has already been made.
Astrid Sedin: What do I need to do to keep it? Please… I need this. It’s the only semblance of hope that I have left.
TAP: I’m sorry but there is nothing. You should get some rest. I didn’t mean to get you riled up.
Astrid Sedin: You should’ve known this would happen. Is this Joshua’s doing? He really is trying to destroy me. You’ve officially taken away everything. Is this how you reward winners? By destroying their lives? If I say I will stay… can I keep it?
The General Manager shakes his head to signify a “no”.
TAP: I couldn’t in good conscience allow you to compete. I would love for you to rethink your resignation, but until you get better mentally and physically there is no way I can let you wrestle in IPW.
Astrid Sedin: I can’t fix my mental health if Joshua refuses to talk to me. I’m physically fine, I just was dehydrated. There’s no concussion symptoms. Why are you doing this? Why? You didn’t show any concern for my well being in that meeting. You didn’t show any signs of concern when you re-signed the man that almost killed me. Why did I do to deserve so much hatred from you?
TAP: It’s nothing to do with hatred. Nothing at all. In the long run you’ll see it’s what’s for the best for you.
Astrid Sedin: You don’t know what’s best for me because you’re doing the opposite of what’s best for me. You’re killing me spirit, my will to keep on keeping on. You want me to get healthy yet… why fight if I have nothing to fight for? Your decisions is driving me into a deeper hole that I won’t be able to find my way out of. I don’t want to even take that test anymore. Why bother… it was only to have a fall back when my wrestling career was over. And now it’s over and I have nothing to fall back on.
He gently pats her on her leg.
TAP: Get some rest, young lady. I’ll be in contact with you in a few days.
Astrid Sedin: Touch me again and I’ll rip this IV out of my arm and jab it into your fuckin’ eyeball.
The look on Astrid’s face was a mixture of so many emotions, rage, anger… you name it. She closes her eyes, took a few deep breaths as she tries to calm down so that the machines she was hooked up to stopped beeping. Tap smiles knowing any emotion from the young woman was better than the depression state she was in. Giving her one last look over, he turns to exit the room.
