The scene opens up in The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles, California… specifically in the shoe department of Nordstrom. It seemed to be a pretty busy part of the day but we are quickly able to find former IPW Lady Icon Astrid Sedin and her niece Jazmin Davis browsing the different options of all sorts of price points. Astrid manages to slip away from Jazmin, heading straight over to the Christian Louboutin section and picks up the black Pigalle Follies Pointy Toe Pump.
Astrid Sedin: This might be way more than I can afford right now, but every girl needs a pair of classic black red bottoms and Jazzy… she’s worth every penny.
With a forced smile upon her face, Astrid walks up to the sales lady and asks for Jazmin’s size in the designer shoe as well as in the blue Chuck Taylor Low Top sneakers. The woman nods and heads off into the back, leaving Astrid alone to putz around, waiting for the sales lady to return.
“Well, well, if this isn’t a surprise…”
A bit shocked, Astrid spins around so fast she damn near knocks over the shoe display. Her eyes grow wide as she sees dressed in a form fitting white lace dress is Kelli Saint-Samson, the first wife of Joshua Samson, Esquire.
Astrid Sedin: What in the actual fuck?
Astrid takes a few steps backwards as her eyes grow wide.
Astrid Sedin: Why can’t you leave me alone?
The woman professionally known as Killjoy chuckles as she places a pair of high heels back upon a rack near her.
Kelli Saint-Samson: I didn’t realize I had been bothering you? It’s been almost two years since I’ve even seen your lil’ piggie face, Astrid.
Astrid Sedin: Your existence bothers me… you know that. And it’s been 1 year… roughly. Why… why must you always come up to me when you see me in public? Why can’t you just let me shop without making this worse?
Kelli Saint-Samson: Now why would I pass up the chance to interact with the fake Mrs. Samson? Oh my fault, you’re still going by Sedin, aren’t you?
Astrid Sedin: Only professionally because my career was already started under that name. My legal last name is Samson… just Samson too because I didn’t have to hold onto my maiden name. But whatever my last name is… is none of your concern.
Kelli Saint-Samson: But if I recall our past encounter last year, you sought to chastise me about my hyphenated surname while swearing to the heavens you would be proudly waving the Samson banner once you were married. By the way, how’s that marriage thing working out for you?
She chuckles again giving evidence she could be aware of the marital issues plaguing Astrid and Joshua.
Astrid Sedin: Joshua and I had planned on changing it professionally but IPW got moving and things not pushed to the side. But I still changed my name… didn’t feel the need to hyphenate. And my marriage is none of your concern. My life is none of your concern. So just piss off already.
Kelli Saint-Samson: Why do you still carry so much animosity toward me, Astrid? Did you not soundly defeat me? Did you not “win” the man and all that comes with him in the end?
Astrid Sedin: Just because I won doesn’t mean I forgot all the shit you caused for me. I carry all this animosity because I hate you. They say that you should forgive and forget… but when it comes to you… that won’t be happening. I will hate you until the day that I die.
Kelli Saint-Samson: Silly little girl have you not learned anything? You don’t hate me, you hate yourself. Everything I told you that day we bumped into each other at Sephora last year was become true has it not? I asked you what would you do when the day came and Joshua tossed you away like a used dish rag? Has that not come true? I told you there would be a newer model, the next young blonde bimbo. Has that not come into fruition?
The raven haired woman looks down at the much smaller blonde hair woman.
Kelli Saint-Samson: Now who is wrestling matches in order to save a failed marriage against Joshua’s current conquests? Ponder on all that, Astrid. You. Are. Me.
Astrid Sedin: Your sick, twisted brain might think that way but you’re fucking crazy. But I’m not wrestling in matches to save a failed marriage. I resigned from IPW because I decided it was time to put my health first. I’m saving myself before things got bad… as bad as they were when your daft ass waltzed into my life.
Astrid shakes her head as she stands her ground.
Astrid Sedin: I’m am here with MY niece and I’m trying to have a good day. And like always, you are ruining it more and more the longer that you stay here.
Whether or not what the former Iconic Queen has said registers with Killjoy, she continues speaking.
Kelli Saint-Samson: You are a poor excuse for a woman, Astrid. What was the point of our “I Quit” match last year? You fought so valiantly for the idea of the fairytale union yet look at you now….still a shattered, mentally battered little girl that refuses to view the reality in the mirror of Life. An entire year of your young life wasted for unnecessary reasons when I warned you beforehand. Pathetic.
Astrid Sedin: I might be shattered and mentally drained… but I fought. I gave it what I had left and he still doesn’t care. He’s blinded but something, blaming me for things and making up lies. He’s not MY Joshua… he’s something else… he’s someone else. I didn’t think it was a fairytale… not once. But I love that man no matter what he says about me… what he does with those other girls… I will always love him. And they say if you love something you should set it free. So that is what I have to do.
Astrid’s eyes start to well up with tears from the combined anger and sadness that she was feeling simultaneously.
Astrid Sedin: It might be destroying me to my very core… but he made it perfectly clear when he started hanging around with the likes of Penelope, Cora and Johanna... my time is done. So it’s time to let him do what he wants. He’s a grown ass man who doesn’t seem to remember the vows we said last May… specifically the for better or worse part. He just gets mad and puts the blame on me… putting up a wall and not seeing the truth. But at least I can live with the fact that I had an amazing time with what little time I had with him. And maybe someday, the happy memories will outweigh the bad.
Kelli can only nod her head in acknowledgment as she listens to Astrid. After a few moments of silence, her face cracks a smile.
Kelli Saint-Samson: Very well conveyed, Astrid. I almost felt that you meant all what you spewed from your mouth. I tell you this though, if you avoid the dark, twisted conflict you feel in your soul in order to keep the peace, you start a war inside yourself.
With two boxes in her arms, the saleslady returns from the back.
Saleslady: Your Louboutins and Chuck Taylors, ma’am.
Kelli Saint-Samson: Have a good day, Astrid. And oh yes, welcome to the Ex Club.
With a click of her tongue, the first wife matter of factly turns to continue her shoe shopping. Astrid hands over her credit card and waits until she is sure Kelli has gone away before she lets the tears flow down her cheeks. Her hands start to shake after the saleslady hands her card back and she tries to put it back in her wallet.
Saleslady: Um...are you okay, ma’am?
Astrid Sedin: I’m crying… what do you think?
Looking up, Astrid’s eyes were red and she wiped away a tear that began to trickle down.
Astrid Sedin: I’m sorry…
Saleslady: Is there any I can--
Before she can finish, bouncing around the corner with a pair of black heels in her hand is Jazmin.
Jazmin Davis: Hey, Auntie, look at these Maureen mule pumps on sale! Hey, what’s going on?
She drops the shoes onto the counter and immediately wraps her arms around Astrid.
Jazmin Davis: What happened, Astrid? Why are you crying?
Astrid Sedin: I… I… Kelli was just here. And she brought up old feelings as well as reminding me that I’m nothing but trash… replaced trash.
She sniffles, wiping away another tear as she hands the two boxes to Jazmin.
Astrid Sedin: But I… got you some shoes. You deserve a nice pair of Louboutins. I might have to sell mine but you need one of your own.
Jazmin Davis: Wait, what? Auntie K...I mean, Kelli was here?! Ohmigoodness!
Jaz places the two boxes on the counter and once again embraces Astrid.
Jazmin Davis: I don’t care or need these shoes right now. The only thing that matters is you, Auntie.
Astrid wraps her arms around Jazmin as she continues to cry. Meanwhile, the saleslady puts the boxes in a bag.
Astrid Sedin: I miss Joshua so much… it’s killing me. Everytime I look at Twitter, I die a little more inside. I want my Joshua….
Jazmin Davis: Come on, let’s get the hell out of here.
Astrid Sedin: I… good idea. Did you want to get cheesecake? I could really eat a whole one right now….
Jazmin Davis: Cheesecake Factory it is then.
Astrid Sedin: Just… please don’t order a slice of Snickers. Anything… but that one.
Astrid takes the bag from the saleslady containing Jazmin’s shoes and slings her black quilted leather handbag over her shoulder.
Astrid Sedin: Let’s go. Do you want those Maureen heels?
Jazmin Davis: Of course not. You’ve already done enough going broke buying me two pair that I honestly don’t need anyway.
Astrid Sedin: You deserve the Loubs. You’ve busted your ass in the ring and in the classroom.
She hands the bag to Jazmin and the two women start to head out of the shoe department, Astrid keeping an eye out to make sure she doesn’t see Kelli again. The scene begins to fade out to black as the two walk through the store.
