It was a bright and sunny morning in Los Angeles, California as the scene opens up inside of the Iconic Sports Management offices just near the famed Staples Center. The time… 8:03 am when Astrid Sedin waltzes through the main doors. She has a confident swagger in her step and black framed glasses upon her face, looking very well put together with her hair pulled into a high ponytail and an outfit of black that hugged her curves like a car at the Daytona 500. She walks past the reception area, knowing fully well where she was going as she walks towards the office of Iconic Pro Wrestling General Manager, Tapioca Joe. Astrid even manages to turn a few heads as she walks through the office, arriving at Tap’s door at exactly… 8:05. Pushing open the door… the former Lady Icon walks inside to see the man in question sitting behind his desk, pecking away the keyboard of a laptop.
Tap: Well good morning to you, Mrs. Samson.
Removing his glasses, he looks up to meet the woman with a smile on his face.
Astrid Sedin: I would say morning… but… the coffee hasn’t kicked in yet. I told you I would be here at 8:05 and well… here I am.
She raises her arms as she takes a seat in one of the chairs in front of the desk.
Astrid Sedin: So… how’s that cleanse treating you?
Tap: (chuckling) It’s keeping my regular that’s for sure.
Astrid pinches her nose and winces.
Astrid: That is disgusting and information that I didn’t need to know.
Sighing, Astrid puts her bag down and leans back in the chair.
Astrid: So....
Tap: Well you did ask. But yes, so…
Astrid: I didn’t come to talk about your bowel movements. You know what I am here for.
Tap: It’s actually my urine movement.
Grabbing a folder near him, he hands it in her direction.
Tap: But this is why you’re here. A new contract.
Astrid grabs the folder from him and opens it. Her eyes dart across the words on the paper, flipping through the pages to make sure she’s got all the information.
Astrid Sedin: I am surprised that you have this ready. You told me that I would have to wait for this because I came in so early. The offices only opened about 5 minutes ago.
She continues to scan the contract.
Tap: Joshua had it prepared and ready. As you can see there is a huge reduction in the pay as well as appearance. Also on the third page, near the bottom, you will see that mandatory weekly psych appointments must be kept. If any are missed this contract becomes null and void.
Astrid Sedin: I’m a bit surprised that Joshua had this ready considering… well… the obvious. Also doesn’t surprise me he cut my pay. Guess it’s a good thing I was able to find a small studio in a cheaper neighborhood.
Shaking her head, Astrid puts the contract down on Tap’s desk.
Astrid Sedin: He’s really trying to screw me, but it’s better than nothing.
Astrid reaches into her bag, rooting around for a pen. Tap holds up a pen.
Tap: Searching for one of these?
Astrid Sedin: Yes… but I had a very specific one picked out. Just so happens to not be where I left it in here.
Her hand continues to move around in the bag until her fingers come into contact with the item she was looking for. Pulling her hand out, Astrid’s fingers are wrapped around a pink bedazzled pen.
Astrid Sedin: Don’t worry… the ink is black.
With a smile on her face, Astrid flips the contract to the signing page and quickly jots down her signature… Astrid Rona Samson.
Tap: I know you and Joshua are dealing with a stressful separation, but I don’t think the cuts in your pay and appearances has anything to do with that. From a business standpoint, you did quit, Astrid.
Astrid Sedin: I was hoping that maybe it would’ve sent a message to him that I was seriously hurting and upset. But… he mistook what I was trying to get across or something like that. I also wasn’t sure if he was actually going to sign off on it but… he did.
Shrugging her shoulders, Astrid closed the folder and slid it back across to Tap.
Astrid Sedin: I can’t get anything through to that man. I’ve tried even apologizing and nothing.
Tap: I was quite surprised he signed off as well. Maybe, just maybe, that’s his way of telling you he understands...that he does want you still?
Astrid slightly shrugged his shoulders.
Astrid Sedin: I don’t know. He did say on my last Chaos…
Sighing deeply she hangs her head slightly to hide the tears starting to well up in her eyes.
Astrid Sedin: He said he was going to talk to his lawyer about divorce paperwork. Why would someone say that if they still want to be with their spouse?
Tap: I honestly have no idea, Astrid. But you know Joshua. He’s a man of words, he uses words as weapons and when he’s upset he wields his words like a ninja master.
Astrid Sedin: Oh I know it probably better than anyone. And his ninja skills… well let’s say they’ve destroyed my heart and soul.
Astrid looks up as a single tear trickles down her cheek.
Astrid Sedin: So what’s your plan for me going forward?
Pushing back out of his chair, the General Manager makes his way around his desk to half sit/half stand on his desk in front of the Iconic Queen.
Tap: Well I was thinking...now that you’re officially back in the fold, it seems only fair that you finally receive your Television Championship match opportunity at the next Chaos. How’s that sound to you, ma’am?
Astrid perks up, her posture straightening as she sat straight up while looking deep into Tap’s eyes.
Astrid Sedin: You better not be shitting me! Are you for sure going to let me have it?
Tap: It’s already going to be announced in the next few hours.
Astrid Sedin: I don’t know if I should hug you or put you in a headlock for making me wait so long. How about we settle for I buy your lunch?
Tap: I suppose that can work even though you don’t owe me anything. You earned the right to challenge for the TV title. And maybe I should buy the lunch? I mean, I know how much you make.
He gives her a playful wink.
Astrid Sedin: Yeah… but I still get a monthly stipend from my inheritance so I’m not as poor as you may think. I just try not to use that money if I don’t have to, but it’ll pay my bills and I can use this for other expenses such as hair maintenance and such.
A smile slowly creeps its way across her lips.
Astrid Sedin: Have your assistant message me when you’re ready for your lunch and what you want. Then I’ll use Postmates or something and have it sent over right away. I don’t want to hang around too much and cause problems with Joshua.
Tap: I fully understand. How about we just meet up the street at Rosa Mexicano? I think you’ll like the food.
Astrid Sedin: Everyone knows I love tacos. But you can’t let me have a margarita or I’ll spiral into a binge. I have to drive home after all.
Tap: Fair enough. I’ve been on the wagon for twelve years anyway. I’ll message you in a few hours.
Astrid Sedin: Well I’ve been trying just about everything that is legal to numb the pain I feel… destruction, distraction, drinking and I’ve even thought about going to a dispensary and buying weed. But it’s been a while since I’ve had a joint even a hit for that matter. But don’t worry… you’ll never see me come to a show under the influence of any substances. I’m not that stupid.
Tap: That’s good to know. But the mental pain will eventually subside, Astrid. You just need to give it some much needed time.
He stands fully to his feet now..
Tap: Trust me, this I know.
Astrid Sedin: Maybe… but he is the love of my life so I don’t see that happening any time soon.
Astrid gets to her feet and slings her bag over her shoulder.
Astrid Sedin: I’ll just hang over at The Santee Alley or something until you’re ready. What’s a good time to be at the restaurant?
Tap: I normally try to take lunch around 11:30. So then would be good.
Astrid Sedin: Hmm… Nordstrom Rack is closer so I’ll go there. I’ll be there by 11:35 at the latest. I look forward to talking about my comeback some more.
Tap: I’ll see you then.
Smiling, Astrid turns on the balls of her feet and walks out Tap’s office, closing the door behind her. Tap can only smile as he walks back to take a seat behind his desk.
