“Hello?”
“How are you doing, Asti?”
“I have been better, I have been worse.”
“How’s the neck and back holding up?”
“They’re fine I guess. I haven’t felt any pain in a few days. But I’ve been resting like the doctor said.”
“So you think you’ll be ready for Metal at the end of the month?”
“Of course I will be. Stasi Herveaux is a raging cunt and can’t keep me down. She’s nothing… and will get what’s coming to her. Graves couldn’t keep me down and she’s nothing compared to him.”
“I’ve been talking to Tap. I’m thinking about pulling you.”
“Why? I will be fine by the time that Metal comes around. That’s like two weeks and a few days away. I’ve gotten a lot better in the 3 weeks since that Russian bitch attacked me. Why are you two always pulling me from matches?”
“Stasi and then the Headhunters. I don’t think it’s in your best interest in the long run. And for the record, Tap is against sidelining you.”
“So now you care about my best interests? Maybe my best interests is staying active.”
“I’m looking out for the best interest of IPW which in turn is in your best interest as well.”
“Nothing major happened when Brianna and I got attacked by those Headhunters. I have a target on my back and it has only gotten bigger. People really seem to think that attacking me will send a message to you.”
“A message to me?! Pump your brakes, Astrid. Any attacks you’ve received is because of YOU not ME!”
“Maybe you’re right and I’m wrong. But what have I done to Stasi other than cutting her off because she couldn’t keep her mouth shut?”
“There’s no maybe to it. It’s you and your attitude...your mouth….that has put you in the position you’re in. You would think after being on Earth for twenty-six years, you’d have some kind of control of that?”
“Twenty seven years. I’ve been through the ringer and a half since my 21st birthday and even more so in the last two years. It’s all a learning process that I am trying to deal with. The therapist is helping a bit.”
“Well until you come to realize that you are the one at fault in your life nothing is ever going to work out for you, Astrid.”
“I’ve at least come to realize that I was the one who is at fault with… Well I apologize wholeheartedly. The therapist said it will take time.”
There is a moment of silence from Joshua’s end of the line.
“Uh...err...well, I was calling to let you know that there is a possibility we’ll be pulling you from Metal. You should really start giving serious thought to life away from the ring, Astrid.”
“Once I find out if I passed or not… the thought process will probably begin.”
“Well...good…”
“I should know by sometime next month.”
“Right, right. Gabe has been keeping me up to date.”
“Tap must be keeping him up to date then. Leo offered me a spot in his firm but I turned it down. It’s not the kind of law I’m interested in. But cool… yeah I’ll let Gabe and you know when I know.”
“No need but you should definitely get those feelers out to see what firms are hiring.”
“Gabe offered me a spot too, said he’s holding it until I find out. But I told him that it’s up to you if I would join ISM’s legal department.”
“Like I said, you might want to get those feelers out…”
“I have sent messages to a few... they all say find out the results then come back.”
A sigh could be heard coming from Astrid’s end.
“If you decide to pull me from Metal I guess I will have to accept it if it's in IPW’s best interests.”
“Tap’ll let you know one way or the other. I need to be going though. Sorry for interrupting your day.”
“Noted. I look forward to whatever decision you render.”
“Right.”
