Rumbling and shouting can be heard in the distance, as an unknown woman drags herself down an alley. She holds her bag from one strap and consequently, the rest of it drags against the floor covering it with whatever filth the alleyway was surely covered with. After a couple minutes pass, she drops the bag all together and after a few steps, drops down to her knees herself. It's hard to make out who she is or what she's saying, but what can be heard is the whimpering of the woman. She holds her arms across her chest, rubbing her arms vigorously to warm herself from the coldness that she somehow feels in weather in which others are sporting tank tops and short shorts.
Footsteps enter the alleyway, but she doesn't look up. It's only when a pair of black dress shoes appear in front of her that she stops her pity party. The man comes down to one knee and grasps her chin with his hand, forcing her to meet his gaze. The woman is of course startled, but can't find any words.
"Look at you. Feeling all sorry for yourself, you poor thing." The man speaks, figuratively and literally down to the woman.
"I wa just-"
"Shhh..." He puts a finger to her lips, interrupting her stammering. It was painful for anyone to watch.
"Come with me," The man continues as he rises to his feet. He stretches out a hand to her.
Finding her words, she finally makes out a few sentences, "I don't even know you. What kind of right minded person would just walk off with a complete stranger? I think in this day in age most people know better than that."
"You seem like you could use a friend and lucky enough, so do I."
"I've got friends, thank you."
"Do you?" He pauses, and mockingly looks behind her as he strokes his beard. "Funny, because as far as I can see it's you just and me."
He had a point, which she took a moment to consider. It didn't take much time before she made a choice and took his hand into hers. The man then began to guide her down the alleyway and the two disappear away from the noise.
