Jon Kellar closed the locker room door behind him, and immediately fell back against he wall. He buried his head in his hands and sighed. Tonight had not been a highlight of his career.
Kellar: Kono… I’m going to go check on Hiro in the trainer’s room. Can you find your way back to the hotel?
No answer came
Kellar: Kono?
Still no answer. Kellar muttered under his breath
Kellar: Suit yourself you little shit….
Kellar pulled himself up and headed down the corridor. Almost immediately he was confronted by a familiar face.
Tap: Well, I hate to say I told you so…
Kellar: Since when?
Kellar kept walking, passing the IPW General Manager as he did. Tap joined Kellar at his side, and the two veterans walked together.
Tap: Come on Dynamite, you know I don’t take pleasure in this. No one, especially me, likes to see a team break up, especially when there’s family involved.
Kellar stopped, and turned to face Tap straight in the eye.
Kellar: Let’s get something straight old man, the Sons of Gold are not breaking up. I already told you, Hiro wants to work with his brother, and Kono doesn’t have a contract. They’re not breaking up, and they’re not going anywhere.
Tap: Poor choice of words, sorry.
The two continued walking.
Tap: Actually… that's what I wanted to talk to you about.
Tap reached into his back pocket and pulled out a document. He flicked it in front of Kellar’s face, bringing the former World Champion to a stop as he took the document from Tap’s hand.
Kellar: What's this?
Tap: This is for you, an IPW contract for Kono Masaki, with flexibility to keep working your dates in Japan for MAX if that’s what you want to do.
Kellar: You told me the Sons of Gold were to volatile to sign.
Tap: They are. Believe me Dynamite, this wasn’t my call. This came from higher up…
Kellar stared at the document in his hand, and began to unfold it slowly.
Kellar: Joshua?
Tap raised an eyebrow
Tap: Please tell me you’re not that naieve…
Kellar looked down at the contract.
Kellar: Brooklyn?
Tap: Yes.
Kellar: I’ve never even spoken to her…
Tap: The Sons did their talking in the ring, she wants them on board.
Kellar smiled
Kellar: This is fantastic news.
Tap: Don’t be so sure.
Kellar: What do you mean?
Tap: Brooklyn may be offering you this opportunity, but you know as well as I do that everything comes at a price… and with this power struggle going on at the top I don’t think it’ll be long before she cashes in that favor.
Kellar folded up the contract neatly and put it inside his jacket.
Kellar: You sound like you don’t trust her.
Tap: In my day the only trust you gave a promoter was the signature on your paycheck… after it cleared.
Kellar chuckled
Kellar: Good philosophy.
Tap: It’s always worked for me. Oh, and one more thing.
Kellar: Yep?
Tap: Next Chaos… IPW is presenting the full debut of the Sons of Gold…
The smile faded from Kellar’s face
Tap: ….and you’re up against Aaron Kostan and Oliver Black.
Kellar sucked his top lip.
Tap: I’m sorry Dynamite. Believe me, this isn’t what I wanted. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt, and I fought this with everything I had. But the powers that be see dollar signs in this main event and at the end of the day, we’re a business.
Tap slapped Kellar sympathetically as he turned around.
Tap: See you at Chaos.
And with that, he departed, leaving Kellar staring at the floor.
