It was going on noon, and Brianna looks down at her cellphone, clicking on the right side of her Iphone to light up the time. 11:53. It was Thursday and she made plans the day before with Astrid Samson to meet up for a lunch date to catch up. Although offering to meet Astrid at her house and taking one car to the restaurant, Astrid had been kind enough to send Brianna a company car to bring her to the meeting point. The plan was to meet around 12:30, where the duo would be reunited since the previous Anniversary Armageddon show. Brianna walks over to the window of her third floor apartment to see if the car has arrived. Nothing yet. Unlocking her phone she pulls up Astrids number and sends her a text.
Are we still on for today? I forgot to confirm this morning.
No reply. Pursing her lips into a slight pucker, she frowns in a disappointing way. Walking in her skechers, she plunks back down onto her couch, and puts her feet up on the coffee table, crossing her legs at the ankle. Lifting a remote, she puts the television on, but doesn’t pay much attention to it.
“You’re My Best Friend” by Queen suddenly strikes up, and Brianna jumps. Grabbing her phone, she sees Astrids response and opens it up.
Yes. Car should be there by 12. Sorry, I was in a meeting & then had to find Hanna. We’re just about to leave the office.
Smiling, she clicks on the emoji list and sends back a thumbs up. As though on cue, there’s a quick two car horn honks, and she gets up and skips to the window again. Peeling back the curtain, she sees a black sedan waiting in the drop off zone of the apartment complex. She grabs her wallet and shoves it in the back pocket of her short blue jean shorts. Taking her keys she quickly exits the apartment, locking the door behind her. Ignoring the elevator she runs down the stairs skipping every other and rushes out the door. A man stands holding the door open and she grins, practically leaping into the backseat. People surrounding the area look in puzzled amazement, and for once, Brianna actually felt like a celebrity. The man shuts the door behind her and gets behind the wheel. The traffic is fairly light on the ride to the Cheesecake Factory, and they make it with ten minutes to spare. The driver gets out and opens the door, and Brianna makes her way to the main door of the place. Stepping inside, she gets a strong scent of garlic. Her mouth waters as she passes a huge display of cheesecakes in a large showcase. Bending down to get a closer look, she can’t decide which one she’d more than likely order.
Astrid Samson: Bri! Over here!
Off the side was sitting Astrid and her younger sister Hanna Sedin who was spending the summer in Los Angeles.
Astrid Samson: They said our table should be ready in a few more minutes.
Astrid put a smile on her face as she tucked a section of her long blonde hair behind her ear..
Astrid Samson: I put us in line the moment we got here.
Brianna hearing her name, turns and grins at Astrid. Skipping over, she sits down next to her on a cushioned bench and crosses her right leg over her left.
Brianna Rissi: Sorry, I was so distracted by the Holy Grail of Cheesecakes that I didn’t notice the two gorgeous girls sitting in the corner! Hey, Hanna, how’ve you been?
Brianna leans around Astrid at the young girl sitting beside her.
Hanna Sedin: OK I guess. Not looking forward to starting high school this year because well… the kids at my school are annoying. I’m hoping to be transferring out here after the semester. Trying to persuade my aunt and uncle to fast track the process.
Astrid Samson: The plan is for me to be her guardian and the process was supposed to have been completed… but everyone knows that things got derailed for a couple months earlier this year.
Looking sympathetic, Brianna looks back at Astrid.
Brianna Rissi: Yea, I get it. I hate when a wrench gets thrown into plans. It’s annoying and problematic. But eventually, hopefully sooner than later, things will finally be the way they should be.
Looking back over at Hanna, she smiles.
Brianna Rissi: So, high school huh? That’s going to be a pretty big change compared to middle school. Are you nervous?
Hanna Sedin: Well I’m going to a prep school so it’s all one school but separate buildings on campus. But I got the cooking class and I’m excited about that. I want to be a chef.
Astrid Samson: When she’s back for one of her breaks, you should come by for dinner some time and try her food. She’s pretty talented for only being 14.
Hanna Sedin: Aunt Clair didn’t want me touching a stove until I knew what I was doing. So I started watching Food Network.
Frowning, Brianna looks at Astrid.
Brianna Rissi: Clair? Your sister?
Astrid Samson: She’s our aunt… well her husband, Uncle Leo, and our father went to college together and when the drama went down between them and me, Leo took my side and then got custody of Hanna.
Brianna Rissi: Ahh yea. I get it now.
Looking back over at Hanna she smiles.
Brianna Rissi: So, what’s your specialty?
Hanna Sedin: Pasta for the moment… I’ve been practicing sauces a lot since I’ve been here. I’ve made a few and put them in the freezer at Asti and Josh’s. But I want to specialize in French cuisine. My goal is to go to Le Cordon Bleu in Paris.
Astrid Samson: She watches a lot of Gordon Ramsay videos and I got her his cookbooks for her birthday in addition to her bag.
Brianna Rissi: Paris huh? It’s beautiful there. Well, you’re certainly more talented than I am in the kitchen then. I can barely boil water. My specialty is cereal in a bowl. Just never cared to learn growing up. It’s a great talent to learn though. I praise you and can’t wait to try it.
Suddenly, the hostess comes up.
Hostess: Your table is ready.
The trio stand up, and Brianna gestures for Astrid and Hanna to go ahead of her. They follow the hostess to the back of the restaurant to a table in a corner. Other patrons line the booths and surrounding tables, busy even this time of day during the week. They each sit down, and the Hostess hands Hanna the first menu, followed by Astrid and Brianna.
Hostess: Your waitress will be right over!
She smiles and then turns away to go back to the podium.
Brianna Rissi: (while opening her menu) So, what do you normally get? The same thing? Or something different?
Astrid Samson: I normally get the carbonara… but I’m going with the fried mac and cheese so I can get cheesecake too.
Hanna Sedin: Yeah… same. I want like, two pieces of cheesecake.
Astrid Samson: Slow your roll girl… you don’t need two pieces.
Brianna chuckles.
[Brianna Rissi: Ahh come on, Asti, let the girl live a little! The purpose of being an aunt is to spoil your nieces and nephews!
Brianna winks in Hanna’s direction before going back to the menu.
Brianna Rissi: Welp, I already planned on a Salad if I’m going to inject my body with all those calories from dessert. Question is, do I want to try something different or stick with my Santa Fe Salad.
A young woman makes her way to the table and introduces herself as Nichole?.
Waitress: Can I get you something to drink?
Brianna Rissi: I guess I’ll just stick with water. [/font]
Hanna Sedin: Coke!
Astrid Samson: Sparkling water with a lemon and a lime. And can we get two bread baskets too?
The waitress nods and heads to the back. Brianna puts down her menu and clasps her hands in front of her, her amused look changing to that of content.
Brianna Rissi: So, Astrid, I have to say you look great. I mean out of your uniform. You look, well, almost happier than when I last saw you out of the Iconic stadium. I get a lot has happened since I had to take my leave of absence, but it seems like everything worked out in the end.
Astrid Samson: Because my heart is full, I’m feeling a lot better mentally. And I’m not sitting at home anymore all day… so I don’t have to sit there with my mind racing. Hey… everyone needs a break once in a while. But you’re back now so that’s all that matters.
Brianna Rissi: It wasn’t so much that I needed a break physically. But mentally, things were just really getting to me. I mean, back in the It Shall Not Be Named company, I was completely different. I was on my A game, and then suddenly, I come to Iconic, and I started off strong, and let's face it, I definitely let it go to my head. It become so stressful, the feeling that I NEEDED to be the best. I was losing focus on why I really wanted to compete in a company. Before, it was about family honor. Then I started to make it more about personal issues. Revenge. Karma. It took its toll on me where I almost snapped. My only regret was not reaching out to you and seeking help sooner. If I had, maybe I wouldn’t have needed a six month or so hiatus. Have you ever felt that way? Where you keep getting beat down, and you start to feel like you can never rise above what you’ve become?
Astrid Samson: I just went through that with Stasi and the Joshua situation at the beginning of the year. But I knew that if I left… I wouldn’t come back. I’m not as strong as you though I try to be. I’m in a pretty good place though at the moment. So I’m feeling good.
Brianna Rissi: That’s great to hear. You know, this is the first time I’ve told anyone about this outside of my therapist.
She smiles embarrassingly to Astrid.
Brianna Rissi: Kind of weird how much of a one eighty we’ve become since meeting back in, what, 2017, huh?
Astrid Samson: You mean when we hated each others’ guts? Oh yeah… complete 180 change. I guess all it took was for us to realize that we were the best on Anarchy… despite what Ollie likes to believe. But he kept getting soft opponents and didn’t face someone like us.
Brianna Rissi: Oh, lets be honest, we were the best thing that happened on Anarchy. When Josh forced us to join forces for that first ever tag team matches, that rose the price of Anarchy tickets alone. That match alone brought Anarchy on to an entirely different playing field. It was unpredictable how good we actually would be together. It surprised me, that’s for damn sure. And there was no way Josh was going to let me anywhere near that title at the time. I was related to his biggest rival.
She chuckles softly.
Brianna Rissi: Now that we’re both back, maybe it’s time to revive that alliance officially. I know, I know that we’ve already agreed to it, but it hasn’t really been placed in motion yet. I get you had stuff going on with Stasi, and hopefully that’s over. Maybe we should start to honestly think about competing in tags again officially and change things on Chaos again.
Astrid Samson: That’s not going to hinder your plans with Ollie?
Astrid looks up, a slightly defeated look upon her face, as the waitress brings their drinks and she starts sipping at it.
Hanna Sedin: Really? You had to bring that up now?
Hanna rolls her eyes as she sips at her Coke.
The waitress sets down the bread in the middle of the table and Brianna reaches for one in the basket closest to her.
Waitress: Are you ready to order?
Brianna looks at Astrid and then nods at the waitress.
Brianna Rissi: I think so. I’ll just do the Santa Fe salad.
Waitress: And for you?
She turns to Astrid.
Astrid Samson: We’ll both have the fried mac and cheese.
Waitress: OK. If you need anything else, don’t hesitate to let me know.
Hanna Sedin: Can I get another Coke?
The waitress nods her head and heads off.
Brianna looks over at Astrid.
Brianna Rissi: Asti, do you think I’ve switched my Iconic allegiance from you to Oliver Black?
When Astrid doesn’t respond she continues.
Brianna Rissi: Let me explain something, Astrid, the thing going on between Oliver Black and I, is strictly based on common interest. And one thing that we both do NOT have our eye set out on is the Iconic Tag Team Titles. When I was making my decision to come back, I had to think about everything. Was I ready to return? What path would I take? Do I have what it takes? Not only mentally, but physically? I just got handed my sixth loss. That’s not something I could easily swallow. When I pictured coming back, I envisioned going down a path that wasn’t offered to me before. Mostly, because the only other time tag team titles were available, was when you and your ex partner back in EHWF decided to throw them into a sea of fans.
Brianna chuckles at the memory, looking into the distance over Astrid's shoulder at an image in her mind. After a moment, she shakes her head and looks back at Astrid.
Brianna Rissi: When I pictured coming back, I pictured going after the tag team titles, and only one person came to my mind when envisioning the ring announcer shouting out the words, “and your NEW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS ARE…….” and the ending was definitely not the name Oliver Black. I know this sounds like I’m hitting on you, but it’s not in a romantic way. I’ve just honestly grown close to you, even after all the teasing I use to do, and how annoying I probably made your life, Astrid. But you’re honestly the only person I could ever tag team with. I trust you and know what you’re capable of in the ring. I know we’ve had our differences in the past. But we both never let each other down when we were competing in the ring because we both had the same philosophy of giving it everything we had when the timing mattered.
Astrid Samson: I was just a bit confused why Oliver though… especially after what he’s said about you and me in the past. I just hope he doesn’t try and turn you against me. I already lost one ally this year and I really, really don’t want to lose another one. And the tag titles in EHWF… I ditched them because I didn’t want to be tied to that no good fat ass for any longer. I was sick and tired of carting his ass around and doing all the work in matches.
Brianna Rissi: I get that and you already know you don’t have to carry my weight. I can handle my own and there is no way Oliver Black can turn me against you. I don’t trust Oliver, but we do have similar ideas on what needs to happen in Iconic. When he called me and explained his plan, it intrigued me. Maybe… I should have talked to you sooner about it, and that parts on me. But that’s all it is. An alliance of foes to defeat a common enemy. And I promise, I’ll explain everything, once we aren’t in ear shot of eavesdropping customers.
Brianna looks around at people who seem to recognize Astrid. Not a shocker as she’s a main face of the company. She then looks back at Astrid.
Brianna Rissi: But I do have to ask….. What is going on with you and Bill Ryder? I get you guys were friends back in the day. I just didn’t realize you were still talking.
Astrid Samson: I have no idea what is going on with him. I didn’t ask him to show up… yet he did. I haven’t spoken to him in MONTHS and then he just shows up and inserts himself into my match.
Astrid took another sip of her drink.
Astrid Samson: I was still waiting on you to come out like we had discussed. I know now you said that they held you back. Stupid security.
Brianna shrugs.
Brianna Rissi: People just doing their jobs.
She grabs another bread and tears it into small pieces on her plate.
Brianna Rissi: Sorry to have brought all this up in front of you Hanna.
She looks over at the 14 year old teenager, as the waitress brings over Hannas second coke
Brianna Rissi: I guess it was inevitable to be brought up eventually. I just didn’t expect it to come out this quickly into the meet up.
Hanna Sedin: I might be a kind still… but I’m wise and I shouldn’t be sheltered. Besides… I watch R rated movies.
Astrid Samson: It’s fine Bri. I was just shocked when I saw it on the show. It’s why I hid in the trainer’s office.
Brianna Rissi: Understandable. Welp, I’m glad we got it out of the way. I hate secrets and feelings of betrayal. If you want, after dessert, we can go and talk in private, and I’ll explain what my role is with Oliver, and what my plans are other than possibly tag team titles I have.
Astrid Samson: Well… we were going to look for a dress for her for homecoming. So while she’s in trying dresses we can talk.
Brianna Rissi: Homecoming huh? Any lucky boy?
Brianna looks at Hanna.
Brianna Rissi: Or just with a group of friends?
Hanna Sedin: Just friends for now. But I wouldn’t mind going with a nice boy. There’s not a lot of them at my school.
Astrid Samson: From what she’s told me… there’s a lot of fuck boys kind of like… well I won’t mention his name though I’m pretty sure you know who I mean.
Brianna Rissi: I can take a guess.
Astrid Samson: Hey, Bree, I was thinking, well, we haven’t spent to much time together lately. You’ve been injured and I’ve had person things going on as well as helping out at the office. Hanna and I, we are going to Disney, and maybe you could come with us. .
Brianna Rissi: Actually, I could use a little distraction lately. I know that I should be focusing on my match, but I’ve honestly been putting in so many hours at the gym. I could use a small break.
Astrid smiles. The girls then pick up their drinks and put them together in a sort of toast. Hanna picks up hers and clinks it with theirs and they look at her a bit startled, but Brianna then chuckles.
Brianna Rissi: To a girls vacation.
The three then take sips of their drinks. As their food arrives, the scene fades.
